The Maccabees - Precious Time

I believe that this video would come under the label of Disjuncture. I say this as I feel that there's not really a lot of meaning behind the video, however they are demonstrating a lot of individuality with the hundreds of images used to create the video.

It is clear from a few Maccabees videos, including the 'No Kind Words' one Ed has analyzed by using a lot of animation and animations. This fits in with the genre of music the create, with it being Alternative/Indie.

There are however parts of the video that could perhaps have links to the lyrics, or even give us a deeper meaning into the lyrics behind the song.

This part shows how they use someone's fingers to represent toes to follow the lyrics 'toe to toe' and they also have someone twiddling with their thumbs as to go with the 'no-where to go, so I'm tip-toeing around it' part.

As the band were still generally a small band at the time, as is demonstrated by the play count of just 236,513 despite the track being now out for four years, they use the video as a slight advertisement for their at the time, latest album - Colour It in. They do this by drawing the faces that actually feature on the front cover of the album, however they paint them in different colours to the eventual ones that are used.

This part of the video shows a view looking out of a window. It is used cleverly to represent the time passing, with the animated clouds passing by, and also the sun rising and then setting once again, this refers to the lyrics 'let's take our precious time about it'. The clouds later are in the video, at around 1:50, with everything stood still, as if time has now frozen as it is so 'precious'.

This part of the video once again is able to refer to the lyrics, they choose to use a crossword to write out the words 'Lets Make Time' and then a word-search to highlight the words 'work for us' it is of course all edited in time to go exactly with the words and runs very smoothly.

At the end of the video the band are put back together by puzzle pieces, this shows the band's unity. It once again has the hand drawn people/faces as another attempt to promote the latest album, the people are placed around the band showing that the album is the work of all of the band members and not just one. Finally the view goes back to the window, where everything is now dark, and finally the lights are turned off, signaling the end of the video.
