Genre?

We always had a idea of what genre we wanted to make a music video on. This was always going to be alternative/indie.

We felt that between us, we enjoyed the same styles of music. There's no secret about the fact that our musical preference definitely has an influence on things such as the way we dress, interests and even to a certain extent who and how you are. Another reason is simply we wanted to make something that we would enjoy ourselves, we wanted to pick a song that we felt represented us well.

However, it was important for us to explore what's selling today in the music industry, we couldn't just say right this is what we're doing and that's that. Therefore we had a look and the different kinds of things that were selling well and doing well in terms of who's selling the most songs, albums and who's videos are being downloaded most.

It becomes very obvious when you look at things such as the Official UK Top 40, with pop absolutely taking up nearly every single Top 40 spot. However, when you look at things such as albums, you see a different pattern. The pattern in the album charts is that bands tend to rule the roost as it were in this side of UK sales, with people such as Bombay Bicycle Club entering at no. 6, with others top spots being occupied by bands such as The Vaccines, Noah & The Whale & Two Door Cinema Club.

If you look at the bands spoken about above they are generally exactly the kind of genre we are wanting to do, and therefore we came to the conclusion that we would do a alternative/indie music video as we think it would definitely be viewed plenty of times.
